What is a full-funnel social media advertising campaign?

The definition: cold reach, consideration, retargeting, and the tracking that links them.

A full-funnel social media advertising campaign runs three stages at once: prospecting to cold audiences, consideration content for people who now know you exist, and retargeting for people close to acting. Each stage gets its own creative and its own metric.

Stage one: prospecting

Cold audiences. Interest, lookalike and broad targeting. The creative has one job, which is to make a stranger stop and understand what you do in about three seconds. Judge it on reach into new audiences, cost per thousand impressions, hold rate on video, and how many people it moves into your remarketing pool. Do not judge it on last-click return on ad spend. It will lose that comparison every time, because the conversion usually gets credited to whatever the person clicked last.

Stage two: consideration

People who watched the video, visited the site, or engaged with the page. This stage answers the objection that actually stops your buyers: price, trust, switching cost, whatever it is in your category. Case examples, demonstrations, before and after, a real customer talking. Judge it on click-through rate to meaningful pages and on how many people move into the final pool.

Stage three: retargeting

Site visitors, cart abandoners, form starters, pricing page viewers. Direct, specific, short. Ask for the thing. Judge this one on cost per lead and cost per sale. Keep the audience windows tight and cap frequency, because the fastest way to make people hate a brand is to follow them for ninety days with the same ad.

The part that makes it a funnel

Tracking. Without a pixel, a conversions API feed, and campaign parameters that survive into your CRM, you have three unrelated campaigns rather than a funnel. You need to be able to ask which prospecting campaign eventually produced closed revenue, and answer it from the CRM.

The common failure is budget. A funnel split across three stages on a small budget can starve every stage at once. If your budget cannot support all three, run prospecting and retargeting, skip the middle, and add it when spend grows.
