Should our business be on TikTok, Reddit, or Pinterest?

When each of these platforms is worth the effort, and when it is a distraction.

Probably not all three, and possibly none of them. Each one demands a different thing: TikTok wants sustained short video, Reddit punishes anything that sounds like marketing, and Pinterest works for visual and considered purchases. Skipping a platform is a legitimate decision.

TikTok

Worth it if you can produce native short video every week for a year and somebody in the business will be on camera. The distribution is genuinely good, and it reaches people who will never see your other channels. It is a bad fit if your plan is to repost polished brand video, because it will look like an ad and be scrolled past. Also be honest about your buyer: if you sell to procurement officers at manufacturers, the audience is thin.

Reddit

Reddit is where people ask for real recommendations, and the community will detect and punish a marketing account fast. Do not post promotional content into subreddits. What works is a named person from your company genuinely answering questions in the places your customers already ask them, with an obvious disclosure of who they work for.

There is a second reason Reddit matters now: forum discussions are frequently surfaced and cited by AI answer engines, so what gets said about you there can end up in an AI answer. That is a reason to participate honestly and to monitor, not a reason to game it. We cover the broader shift in our explainer on answer engine optimization.

Pinterest

Pinterest behaves more like a search engine than a social network, and the intent is often planning a purchase months out. It earns its place for home services, interiors, events, apparel, food, and anything where the customer collects ideas before buying. For most B2B and most professional services, it is a distraction.

The cost of one more channel

Every added channel consumes a slot on a social retainer and needs content shaped for it. On LevelUp retainers, channel counts are capped by tier: two at Level 1, three at Level 2, four at Level 3, five at Level 4. On the paid side, each additional platform is $350 per month on top of the 10 percent of spend, $1,500 per month minimum. So the question is not whether a platform could work. It is whether it works better than doing more of what already works. Usually it does not.

Tiers are on the retainers page.
