Should we post from a LinkedIn company page or from employee profiles?

Why personal profiles outperform company pages, and how to run employee advocacy.

Use both, and expect the personal profiles to do most of the work. A LinkedIn company page is where proof and hiring content live. Reach, replies and actual conversations come from people, especially your founders and subject matter experts.

Why profiles outperform pages

People connect with people. A post from a named human with a face gets commented on, and comments are what put a post in front of second-degree connections. A company page post mostly reaches people who already follow the page. That is not a conspiracy, it is how the feed rewards conversation, and a logo does not have conversations.

Division of labor

  • Company page: proof and credibility. Project work, client outcomes, hiring, announcements, awards, and the profile a buyer checks before a first meeting. It also anchors your LinkedIn ads, which have to run from a page.
  • Founder and executive profiles: point of view. What you believe about your industry, what you see changing, what you disagree with. This is the content that gets shared and that starts sales conversations.
  • Subject matter experts: the practical how. Your operations lead explaining a thing they fixed is more persuasive than any brand post.
  • Everyone else: optional amplification, never required.

Employee advocacy without making everyone hate it

Advocacy fails in two predictable ways. The first is mandating it, which produces resentment and obvious compliance posting. The second is handing out identical pre-written text that twelve people publish the same morning, which reads as spam to anyone who follows more than one of them.

What works: give people a source of material, not a script. Share the link, three angles they could take, and a note about who would find it useful. Let them write it. Recognize the people who participate. Accept that a handful will carry it and the rest will not, which is fine.

Practical setup

Fix the profiles first. A headline that says what you do for whom beats a job title. A banner and an about section that reads like a person. Then commit to a cadence the executive can actually hold, which is usually twice a week, not daily. Ghostwriting works if the ideas are genuinely theirs and they approve every post. It falls apart the moment someone replies in the comments and the executive does not recognize their own opinion.

If the bottleneck is that leadership has no time, a fractional CMO engagement often covers this, and our social scope is on the social media management page.
