How do you get your business mentioned by ChatGPT, Perplexity, and Google AI Mode?
What actually influences whether an AI assistant names you in its answer.
Nobody can guarantee it, and anyone selling a guarantee is lying. What you can do is make your business easy to find, easy to quote, and easy to verify, which is what every assistant is looking for when it decides who to name.
The levers that are real
- Question shaped pages. One question per page, phrased the way a person would ask it, answered in the first sentence. Assistants lift answers, not introductions.
- Structured data. Organization, LocalBusiness, Service, Article and FAQ schema give a machine an unambiguous version of what your page says.
- Consistent entity information. Same business name, same address, same services, same claims everywhere. Contradictions make a model pick someone else.
- Third party corroboration. Mentions on sites the model already trusts. Directories, press, partner pages, review platforms. A claim that only exists on your own site is a weak claim.
- Crawlability. If an AI crawler cannot fetch the page, none of the above matters.
The levers that are mostly wishful thinking
Stuffing keywords, publishing high volume thin content, and buying links. Those were weak SEO tactics and they are worse here, because generated answers pull from a smaller set of sources and reward trust signals over volume.
How to tell if it is working
Ask the assistants directly, on a fixed list of prompts, on a schedule, and log what comes back. Watch referral traffic from assistant domains in your analytics. Watch branded search volume, which tends to rise before direct referrals do. HubSpot has started shipping AEO tooling for exactly this, and as a Platinum partner we run it for clients inside their own portal.
