What happens in the first 30, 60, and 90 days of a new paid campaign?
Build and instrument in month one, learn in month two, optimize and scale in month three.
Month one is the build. Month two is launch and learning. Month three is where optimization gets real. Early cost per lead is usually higher than steady state, and that is normal rather than a sign something is broken.
Days 1 to 30: build and instrument
Strategy, account structure, keyword and audience research, ad copy and creative, conversion tracking, call tracking, CRM connection and landing page review. Nothing launches until the tracking is verified, because launching without it means paying to generate data you cannot trust. You pay the $1,500 at contract start, and campaigns go live in month two. If that sounds slow, consider that the alternative is three months of optimizing toward numbers that were never real.
Days 31 to 60: launch and learn
Campaigns go live and the bid strategy begins calibrating. Google's help documentation describes the learning period as potentially taking up to around 50 conversion events or three conversion cycles. Expect cost per lead to be high and uneven at first. During this window we read search terms weekly against your real service pages and service area, validate that conversions are genuine leads, and fix anything obviously broken. We resist the urge to change five things at once, because that is how you learn nothing.
Days 61 to 90: optimize and start scaling
By now there is enough data to act on. Budget shifts toward what produces qualified leads, weak ad copy gets replaced, landing pages get their first real revisions, and if the account is healthy we start incremental budget increases. This is also when the first meaningful report exists: cost per qualified lead by campaign, not impressions.
When to actually pause
Pause for a broken offer, a tracking failure, or sustained spend with no qualified leads after the learning period has genuinely completed. Do not pause after one slow week, and do not pause in month two because the numbers look worse than the proposal implied. Restarting resets learning and you pay for that twice.
One practical note
Budget is agreed before each month starts so the fee is known in advance, and we ask 30 days notice to pause, change tier or cancel.
