What is the difference between HubSpot Free, Starter, Professional, and Enterprise?

Tiers gate automation, reporting depth, and permissions more than they gate the CRM.

The CRM itself is largely the same at every tier. What the tiers gate is automation, reporting depth, segmentation headroom, and permission control. That is the honest short answer, and it is why the upgrade trigger is almost always a process problem rather than a feature wish.

The line that matters most: workflows

HubSpot's workflow documentation lists workflows as available with Professional and Enterprise across Marketing, Sales, Service, Data, Content, Smart CRM and Revenue Hub, with contact-based workflows also available on Marketing Hub Starter. In practice that is the wall people hit. Free and Starter will run your CRM and send email. When you need branching logic, internal notifications, property updates and lifecycle automation, you are shopping for Professional.

Headroom and control

HubSpot's public Product and Services Catalog documents the limits, and they climb with the tier. For Marketing Hub it currently lists up to 50 active and 1,000 static CRM segments on Starter, 1,200 of each on Professional, and 2,000 of each on Enterprise. Reporting dashboards go from 30 on Starter, to 75 on Professional, to 100 on Enterprise, with 50 reports per dashboard. Calculated properties are listed at 40 on Starter and 200 on Professional. Teams go from up to 10 on Starter to up to 300 on Professional and Enterprise. Custom objects are documented as an Enterprise capability.

Enterprise is mostly about control and scale: more granular permissions, more organizational structure, and the data modeling you need when the CRM has to mirror a complicated business. Check the catalog against your own numbers, because HubSpot updates it.

The upgrade trigger

You are ready to move up when a person is doing something on a schedule that a rule could do, or when you cannot answer a leadership question from a dashboard without exporting to a spreadsheet. Those are the two symptoms worth paying for. Wanting a feature because it was in a demo is not a trigger.

LevelUp Digital is a HubSpot Platinum Solutions Partner and we would rather you stay on Starter another two quarters than buy Professional and use it like Starter.
